✒️ Al-Haafidh Ibn ‘Abdil Barr mentioned in at Tamheed 7/74: “and the majority of scholars have stated:
The individual who catches the imaam as he is in rukoo’ so that he makes the takbeer and goes into rukoo’ such that he is able to place his hands on his knees before the imaam raises his head from rukoo’, then he has caught that rak’ah. Whoever does not do so before the imaam rises, then consequently, he has not caught the rak’ah and whoever the rak’ah has elapsed, then the sajdah has as well; meaning that the sajdahs he makes are not rendered as part of a valid rak’ah as he must make sajdah with the imaam (in a rak’ah which is valid).”
This is the position of Maalik, ash-Shaafi’ee, Abi Haneefah and their companions. It is also the position of ath-Thawree, al-Awzaa’ee, Abi Thawr, Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Ishaaq.
It was also narrated from Ali, Ibn Mas’ood, Zayd ibn Thaabit, Ibn ‘Umar, ‘Ataa, Ibraaheem an-Nakha’ee, Maymoon ibn Mihraan and ‘Urwa ibn az-Zubayr.
📒 Also, Ibn ‘Abdil Barr has similar speech in his Istidhkaar, 1/268.
